The Canal

The canal fell into disuse into the middle of the 20th century, but it has since been brought back into life as a recreational amenity. Boats can be hired at centres along its length from Brecon to Goytre wharf in Monmouthshire, during the season from Easter to November.

Attractions

Llangattock also boasts a number of other outdoor attractions, including rock climbing and caving at the Hillside (the cave system is one of the most extensive in the British Isles). The spectacular scenery of the area can also be enjoyed on foot or horseback along the extensive network of public footpaths and bridleways. Fishing is available in the River Usk and the canal. The area is a centre for hang-gliders and paragliders, who relish the natural facilities for their sport provided by the surrounding mountains.
